Today’s high-tech world calls for an ever increasing vigilance on the part of both businesses and consumers when it comes to keeping personal and financial data safe. Part of that vigilance is knowing what to do if you ever find yourself the victim of a data breach or data theft. To help, the Federal Trade Commission has created a step-by-step video illustrating what to do if you’re a victim of a data breach. The video shows the steps that you should to take if your information, or the information of someone in your family, was part of a data breach. This could include your financial information, social security information, passwords or other identifying information.

The FTC recommends that anyone who has had their information stolen, misused or exposed visit IdentityTheft.gov to report the identity theft and get a personal recovery plan.

If you do find yourself in a situation where your credit has been compromised, Southern Bancorp’s certified credit counselors may also be able to help get things back on track. Watch the video below to learn more.
