The Sunflower River weir project has received sufficient funding now that all of the interested parties have come on board.
Mac Crank, executive director of Clarksdale Revitalization, Inc., told the Clarksdale Board of Mayor and Commissioners Sept. 13 that the Delta Bridge Project is providing a $150,000 grant and Southern Bancorp has agreed to appropriate some $39,000 to complete the weir project.

Recognizing that Helena and Clarksdale, Miss. have a lot in common in terms of their heritage, history, and music, Delta business and professional leaders gathered here Wednesday to devise a strategy to enhance tourism and economic development for the sister cities.
The midday session at the Delta Cultural Center’s Depot was arranged through Southern Financial Partners with Joe Black as senior vice president.

With jobs disappearing in Coahoma County, Lois McMurchy is an integral part of the leadership taking a long range approach to the economic outlook. She recently became senior community development officer for Southern Bancorp, a bank-centered economic development organization designated by the U.S. Treasury Department as a community development financial institution.

The Delta Bridge project may have lost a key organizer when Jack Hill left town, but a new face is already in place.
Lois McMurchy, who formerly worked with Coahoma Community College, has been named vice president of community development for the local Delta Bridge project and has already hit the ground running. McMurchy provided a report as part of the Industrial Foundation board meeting held Tuesday at the Chamber of Commerce.

With the deliberateness and precision of a military maneuver, Jack Hill stepped towards the crowd and provided Rotarians with several updates at the civic club’s weekly meeting Tuesday.
Hill, administrator of Northwest Regional Medical Mississippi Center, said improvements are being seen at the Clarksdale hospital, but encouraged Rotarians to investigate and determine the success of the facility on their own.
