The other colleges selected are Phillips Community  College of the University of Arkansas in Helena, and Ozarka College in  Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe chosen locations represent diverse community and college  cultures and have the leadership to implement change based upon the  special needs of students from poverty and to effect positive community  change,\u201d noted a statement from ATU-Ozark.<\/p>\n<div id=\"inartad\" style=\"padding: 5px 0pt 5px 10px; float: right;\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\">\/\/ <![CDATA[\n\/\/ [CDATA[\n    OA_show('In Article');\n\/\/ ]]\n\/\/ --&gt;\n\/\/ ]]><\/script><\/p>\n<div id=\"beacon_17a3fb9e22\" style=\"position: absolute; left: 0px; top: 0px; visibility: hidden;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Dr. Jim Purcell, director of the Arkansas Department of Higher  Education, said the program will attempt coordinate resources other than  just money to help provide college training to those who need it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe concept of sustainable communities is important because the  solutions to reducing the consequences of poverty are not short term and  require effort sustained over the course of time,\u201d Purcell said in a  statement. \u201cThe same is true for the effort required to realize higher  levels of educational attainment in Arkansas and to successfully achieve  the Governor\u2019s economic development goals of the state. &#8230; It takes  the broader community working in tandem to address the very complex  issues of poverty and resources.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other groups and state agencies involved in the program include the  Arkansas Department of Workforce Services, the Arkansas Department of  Human Services, the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, the  Workforce Investment Board,\u00a0 the Arkansas Association of Two-Year  Colleges, the Community Development Institute, the University of  Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, the Winthrop Rockefeller  Foundation, the Southern Good Faith Fund, the Arkansas Coalition for  Excellence, the Little Rock Branch of\u00a0 the Federal Reserve Bank of St.  Louis, and Southern Bancorp.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>El campus de Ozark de la Universidad Tecnol\u00f3gica de Arkansas es uno de los tres colegios comunitarios del estado seleccionados como centros piloto del programa \"Comunidades sostenibles a trav\u00e9s del liderazgo de los colegios comunitarios\".<\/p>\n<p>El programa, que forma parte del Departamento de Educaci\u00f3n Superior de Arkansas, est\u00e1 dise\u00f1ado para aprovechar las relaciones existentes entre las universidades y los grupos comunitarios.
