Angela RylandBusiness Development Center Participant
Diamond A Properties, LLC, was formed in August 2007 by Angela R. Ryland, President. Angela became interested in real estate after purchasing a foreclosure and saw the quick turn around in the profits.
Angela said she has always looked for ways to increase her knowledge and skills to perform a certain task; therefore, she enrolled in Business Development Center First Step FastTrac training program in 2005. She knew that she needed to start her own business but needed some guidance on exactly how to going about it. She was particularly interested in the advantages of structuring the business as a limited liability corporation.
In 2006, she enrolled in a real estate course for individuals wanting to obtain their real estate license. This course was offered by the National School of Real Estate in North Little Rock, AR. Midway through the course she realized that in order to become a principle broker and open her own firm, she could not work a full time job. She was employed in a management position with USDA Natural Resources Conservation Services but she continued the course for information purposes only.
Angela enrolled in the Business Development Center Introduction to Contract training in 2006 to learn how to obtain state and government contracts as a minority business. She found the information helpful and wanted to pursue it further. In 2007, she enrolled in the Minority Business Certification training which was a “hands-on” training to obtain minority business certifications. Angela obtained her D&B number and completed the Central Contracting Registry process.
In conjunction with her real-estate business, Angela opened a retail store in Forrest City Arkansas March 2008. Angela states that the business is going well as a start-up but as expected, she struggles with building a steady cliental in order to have steady cash flow. She recently enrolled in the BDC Technical Assistance program for assistance in marketing the business and locating vendors to service small businesses because of wholesales having a minimum quantity orders which are too large for small businesses.
The business provides home décor products and professional services. Angela’s business is co-located with her husband (Willard) business, Pyramid Lawn Services, LLC. Operating inside his location has been a tremendous help because there is very little overhead cost. She operates as a one woman show which means she handles the day-to-day operations, inventory and merchandise ordering.
