Delta Bridge Planners Set
The Delta Bridge Project’s Strategic Community Plan for Coahoma County rolls into its next phase with a series of meetings next week at Jonestown and Clarksdale.
“In November you expressed your thoughts. Come hear those ideas you and your fellow citizens shared,” Lois McMurchy, senior development officer for Southern Bancorp and the project coordinator, said Wednesday.
The meeting schedule is as follows: Dec. 8, 5:30-7 p.m. at the Timothy Burrel Center in Jonestown, 1:30 p.m. Dec. 9 and 5:30 p.m. at the Clarksdale Civic Auditorium.
The pros and cons about Coahoma County were outlined during breakout sessions conducted at Jonestown and Clarksdale Nov. 11. Fredalyn Frasier, vice president for AECOM Design and Planning at Atlanta, gathered the data from those sessions to prepare information for next week’s sessions.
The project began with a kickoff program Oct. 12 in the Pinnacle on the campus of Coahoma Community College. Joe Black, president of Southern Bancorp’s Capital Partners, took a lead role in the initiation of a Delta Bridge Project modeled after the one that has been in place for six years in Phillips County, Ark.
The DBP’s five pillars are economic development, education, health care, housing and leadership.
