Newsom will oversee lending operations in Olive Branch and Hernando, Miss.

DeSoto County, Miss. – Southern Bancorp Bank, a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), has announced the promotion of Josh Newsom to Market President. Newsom has been with Southern Bancorp since 2019, most recently serving as City President of the bank’s Olive Branch, Miss., market.

Newsom has worked in the banking and finance industry for more than 19 years. He joined Southern Bancorp’s mission in 2019, first at the CDFI’s Hernando, Miss., branch as Senior Vice President of Commercial Lending. In 2020, he was promoted to City President of Olive Branch, where Southern Bancorp operated a loan production office for several years before opening a full-service bank branch in 2024.

As Market President, Newsom will oversee all lending operations in Southern Bancorp’s DeSoto County market, which includes bank locations in Hernando and Olive Branch.

“I look forward to growing in this new role and am excited to lead Southern Bancorp’s wealth building efforts in Desoto County,” said Newsom.

A native of Corinth, Miss., Newsom received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Mississippi State University in 2006 and is a 2022 graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. He is also a graduate of the 2014-2015 class of Leadership DeSoto and a 2017 graduate of the Mississippi School of Banking.

Newsom is also very active in his community. He is a past president and current member of the Rotary Club of Olive Branch. He is also on the Board of Directors for the Olive Branch Chamber of Commerce, currently serving as Treasurer. Newsom and his wife, Laura, have two daughters, Ava Grace, 12, and Katherine, 5.
