The grant
The City of Okolona was awarded a beautification grant from Southern Bancorp in the amount of $18,972.
Purpose
The award will be used to remove the Okolona High School to provide safety to area residents and extend the current city park area which is used for community events, including a trail ride.
The background
The Okolona City Board voted unanimously to accept a bid from Brick City Abatement to tear down the building at a cost of $18,400. The amount includes razing of the structure, transportation of the debris, labor, equipment and insurance and asbestos removal

The razing of the building is complete.
