Dr. Henry Torres
Chief Information Officer, Texas Woman’s University
Dr. Torres is the CIO of Texas Woman’s University, which is the largest state-supported university focused on women in the United States. Prior to this role, Torres was the Vice President of Information Technology & CIO for the Arkansas State University System, in which he led teams of IT professionals across each of its seven campuses and was responsible for all technology hardware and software for the overall university system. He was also resident CIO for the flagship A-State campus in Jonesboro, Ark., and was an adjunct instructor at the Neil Griffin College of Business and online at Henderson State University’s College of Business.
During his time at Arkansas State, Torres was the key member of a high-tech start-up, through which he led the creation of a software outsourcing company, Rural Sourcing, Inc., and developed it to $1.6 million in annual sales in just 24 months. Leading this enterprise resulted in interviews with 55+ national publications and on the cover of Computer World magazine. Rural Sourcing was eventually sold to its largest customer and has grown to become a multi-million dollar company employing more than 200 individuals.
Before his time at Arkansas State and his current role with TWU, he worked in executive positions with Walmart, Neiman-Marcus, CSK Auto, and Frederick’s of Hollywood. While at Walmart, Torres served in warehouse administration, store operations, Sam’s Club, and the Latin America division. While at Frederick’s, he was instrumental in developing the e-commerce channel for the retailer and was part of an Internet start-up in Silicon Valley/San Jose, CA.
Torres earned a Bachelor’s of Industrial Engineering from Texas Tech University, a Master’s in Business Administration from Henderson State University, and a PhD in Business Administration with emphasis in Information Systems Security Training at Kennesaw State University.
In addition to serving on the Board of Southern Bancorp, Inc., Torress also serves on the Boards of Directors for E.C. Barton & Company, Baptist Health of Arkansas, United Way of NEA, Mid-South Health Systems, Inc., and previously for Hispanic Community Services Inc., Parenting and Childhood Education Services, Accelerate Arkansas, and Commerce Capital Development Company, LLC.
