Clarksdale has a new playground.
Saturday, over 200 men, women and children worked through the occasional drizzle to move mulch, mix cement and build a playground from scratch at Martin Luther King Park.
Two years after the initial announcement by the Delta Bridge Project, the playground is up, but it’s not set to open until at least Friday, contrary to earlier reports of a Tuesday opening. Mac Crank, the director of Clarksdale Revitalization, Inc., said he has to get more mulch spread out onto the play area and he has to replace some rivets.
“If I can get them by Wednesday, it won’t take them very long to install them,” he said.
